NURSERY LIFE Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

At Broadhurst School, we believe children flourish when they feel safe, valued, respected and emotionally secure. Nurturing wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, creating an environment where children develop the confidence, resilience and self-belief to thrive both academically and personally.

Our warm and caring staff build strong relationships with every child, ensuring they feel known, heard and supported. We place great importance on helping children understand and express their emotions, modelling and developing emotional language from an early age so that children can communicate their feelings with confidence and empathy.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Through our enriched PSED curriculum, children learn strategies for emotional regulation, positive relationships and self-awareness. Mindfulness, yoga, creative movement and drama are woven throughout school life, helping children develop calm minds, healthy bodies and a positive sense of self. Calm and reflective spaces within classrooms provide opportunities for children to regulate emotions, practise self-management and return to learning feeling ready and supported.

We promote a restorative approach to behaviour and relationships, helping children understand the impact of their actions, resolve disagreements positively and develop empathy for others. Through restorative conversations and guided reflection, children learn valuable lifelong skills in communication, responsibility and problem-solving.

Finding Their Voice

Children are encouraged to develop confidence through a wide range of opportunities to perform, present and share their achievements. Whether participating in drama productions, musical performances, Show and Tell sessions or classroom discussions, children are supported to find and use their voice.

Active and Responsible Citizens

We believe in empowering children to become active and responsible members of their community. From an early age, children learn about fairness, respect, democracy and inclusion. They are given meaningful opportunities to make choices, vote on aspects of school life and contribute their ideas, helping them understand that their opinions matter and that everyone has a voice.

Above all, we strive to create a culture where every child feels happy, secure and valued as the unique individual they are. By supporting wellbeing alongside academic development, we help children build the confidence, resilience and emotional intelligence that will serve them throughout their education and beyond.
